Montreal, Quebec – As Quebecers prepare for the holiday festivities and the first long weekend of summer, MADD Canada and Allstate Insurance Company of Canada are encouraging everyone to make safe and sober driving part of their plans.

Whether you are attending one of the numerous public parties, concerts, fireworks displays or parades, or planning a celebration at home with family and friends, leave the driving to someone sober if you are going to be drinking.

“No one ever expects to cause a crash or to kill or injure someone, but that is exactly the risk you take if you get behind the wheel impaired,” said MADD Canada National President Angeliki Souranis. “With a little planning and responsible decision-making, we can make sure this holiday weekend is one of celebration, rather than one of devastation resulting from an impaired driving crash.”

The hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries that occur every year as a result of impairment-related crashes are 100% preventable.

MADD Canada and long-time sponsor and partner, Allstate Insurance Company of Canada, are urging everyone to help prevent impaired driving this weekend, and all summer long, by:

  • Never driving a car, boat, ATV or any other vehicle while impaired;
  • Never riding with a driver who is impaired;
  • Calling 911 to report suspected impaired drivers.

“Impaired driving is never worth the risk,” said Ryan Michel, Allstate Canada President and CEO.  “There are always alternatives. Arrange a designated driver, take public transit, call a cab, or stay over. If everyone plans ahead and looks out for one another, we can keep our families, friends and communities safe from impaired driving.”
