I believe our donors must be the happiest people – because of all they do for others with their heart-felt support for MADD Canada.
They are certainly there for the victims and survivors of impaired driving. And now, with your added support, we can continue to help them recover from unthinkable tragedy. We can help them find hope thanks to your generosity.
Looking back on 2018, I can honestly say that victims of impaired driving, young Canadians, and every person who travelled our roads and waterways all benefitted from donor support of programs like Project Red Ribbon, Campaign 911, our School Assembly Program and our Victim Support Services.
Here’s a look at some of the many achievements we’re celebrating as a result of donor gifts…
Our SmartWheels pilot project was a big hit as it rolled up to schools across Ontario. The mobile classroom engaged 13,500 Grade 4-6 students with a fully-interactive education program about the risks of alcohol, drugs and driving. With your thoughtful donation, we look forward to expanding this vital program and bringing it to more kids in 2019.
Speaking of young people, we also delivered our highly effective School Assembly Program to approximately one million middle and high school students, grades 7 – 12 across the country. Together, with the addition of your support, we’ll keep up the momentum this year, giving more students the opportunity to learn about the risks and consequences of impaired driving.
Meanwhile, we continued our focus on victim/survivor support and outreach by introducing a new online Victim Services Volunteer training program. We also reached out to more devastated families by live-streaming sessions from our National Conference for Victims of Impaired Driving. In 2019, your generosity will help us continue to support the 20,000 victims and survivors who will turn to us for understanding and hope.
Last year was an important one as we celebrated the passing into law of Bill C-46 after more than a year of debate. The new federal legislation addresses drug-impaired driving limits, roadside testing options and mandatory alcohol screening. With supporters like you by our side, we are very proud of the role MADD Canada played in advancing these measures.
And yet, we can’t afford to let down our guard – especially now that recreational use of cannabis has been legalized in Canada. With your gift today, we’ll work with all levels of government this year to stay on top of this critical issue.
With your support for MADD Canada you reach out to victims of impaired driving, help keep awareness and education program strong, and take action to protect Canadians including your own loved ones on our roads. For all you do for others you deserve every happiness.
Please take a moment right now to give your commitment to MADD Canada and the vital work we do every day. With your support, I have no doubt there will be more achievements to celebrate, more reasons for you and many others to be happy in 2019.
I wish you and your family a safe and happy New Year.
