Home city: Portage La Prairie, AB
Date of crash: April 20, 1999
It is the 10th Anniversary of the impaired driving crash related death of my mother Beryl Hansen, aged 59 (she was a pedestrian killed by a drunk driver).
Beryl was killed near Portage la Prairie, MB on April 20, 1999. At the time of her death, she had just retired and was looking forward to spending time with her first and only grand-child (my daughter Madison).
She now has 4 grand-children that she will never see due to the actions of the 18 year old driver who was intoxicated by both alcohol and marijuana.
Beryl’s legacy is that her three adult children all became involved din MADD Canada with two of us being chapter presidents at Brandon and Winnipeg, MB.
Beryl’s story has been used by MADD, the RCMP and other agencies in videos to educate drivers and youth on the dangers of drinking and driving.
