Daniel James Carter
Daniel James Carter
Home city: Prince Albert, SK
Date of crash: September 19, 2010
Daniel was the youngest of my 4 children, born on the same day as his oldest brother; they were the bookends of the family. Daniel is remembered for his smile, compassion, kindness and his sense of humour. It will be 5 years this Sept. since the crash that took his life. His was a bright shining light in this world, which is now gone forever.
Daniel was the victim of a hit and run driver who had been drinking in a local bar. He was crossing the street when he was struck and run over. He was transported to RUH in Saskatoon where he died of his injuries the following day. The unlicensed driver left the scene and therefore impaired driving charges could not be laid. She was convicted of Dangerous Driving Causing Death and Leaving the Scene of an Accident.
We all miss Daniel so much and long for his presence at every family gathering. I love him so much and will always cherish our talks, his hugs and his laughter. One of the last things I remember Daniel saying to me was “Don’t worry Mom, I’ll be fine….” Daniel’s generous spirit lives on in 6 people who were helped through organ donation.
I hope that Daniel’s death has made a difference to our community with respect to Drinking and Driving. I would like to thank MADD Canada, who provided support to us and sponsored us to attend the National Victim Conference which has helped us in our journey of healing. I am currently a part of our local MADD Prince Albert Chapter which started in Aug. 2014 and hope that we can continue to raise awareness within our community and area.
