Richard “Evan” Powell

Home city: Vernon, BC
Age: 13
Date of crash: August 12, 1977

My son was walking home from school about 4:30 PM and a man passed a friend of his in a school zone going about 85 miles per hour (by the yaw marks). He went out of control and hit my son and killed him instantly.

Memorial Message

The following message was written by Evan’s sister, Carole Powell.

Lost and All Alone

I always thought that I could make it on my own
But since you left I can hardly make it through the day
My tears get in the way. And I need you back to stay
I wander through the night.
And search the world to find the words to make it right
All I want is just the way it used to be with you
Close to me. I’ve got to make you see. That I’m lost
Without your Love. Life isn’t worth the trouble of…
And I’m helpless as a ship without a wheel.
A touch without a feel. I can’t believe it’s real.
Some day I’ll wake and find my heart won’t have to break.
Life without you isn’t worth the trouble of…
All I want is just the way it used to be.
I need you here with me because I’m lost without your Love.
