Home city: St. John’s, NL
Date of crash: December 26th, 2008
On December 26th, 2008, my brother, Roger set out in his vehicle to pay a few friends a Christmas visit. It was a beautiful clear night. As he sat behind the wheel, I have no doubt that he cranked up his Newfoundland collection of Christmas music and headed into the night. It was not long before his vehicle was struck by a drunk driver travelling on the wrong side of the median. Roger was struck head-on and was killed almost instantly. My funny, harmless, gentle brother was gone forever and our family has never felt whole since.
Roger was the eighth child in a family of nine children. He loved everything about his rich Irish Newfoundland heritage – the music, the songs, the stories, and the dances. It was from that culture that he inherited his ability to tell a well-embellished story.
Roger had a large heart, a large personality and an even larger sense of humor. Roger was so full of life and laughter. Christmas has never been the same.
